Abu dhabi: Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region, the Abu Al Abyad 60ft Dhow Sailing Race will commence on 20th September. The event is organised by the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club and marks the beginning of the new season’s heritage marine racing calendar.
According to Emirates News Agency, the race will act as the inaugural round of the 60ft Dhow Sailing Championship, spanning a course of 20 nautical miles. More than 90 dhows are set to participate, drawing the involvement of hundreds of sailors and captains.
The organising committee has set aside a prize fund totalling AED4,238,000, which will be awarded to the top 90 positions. This initiative is designed to encourage continued participation among sailors and to promote the sustainability of this heritage sport, which is integral to the UAE’s historical and national identity.
