Al-Sudani will visit Moscow soon and Lavrov confirms his country’s keenness to develop relations with Iraq

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed today, Saturday, an upcoming official visit by Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani to the Russian capital, Moscow.

The Ministry stated in a statement today that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein met with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, on the sidelines of his participation in the meetings of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The statement added that during the meeting, prospects for joint cooperation and development of bilateral relations between the two countries were discussed.

The Foreign Minister confirmed: “The Iraqi side is working to complete the necessary preparations for the visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani to the Russian capital, Moscow, during the next few weeks.”

The statement quoted Hussein as saying that the discussions between the two sides during the visit will provide an appropriate opportunity to discuss bilateral cooperation between the two sides in the political and economic fields, indicating the possibility of holding a meeting of the Iraqi-Russian joint committee on the sidelines of this visit.

For his part, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed his country’s keenness to develop bilateral relations between the two countries, indicating his country’s aspiration for Al-Sudani’s visit to Moscow during the next few weeks.
