French president inks retirement law despite protests

French President Emmanuel Macron signed on Saturday the main part of the retirement law that lifts the age of retirement from 62 to 64 years, BFM reported.

It broadcast excerpts of the law that became effective after it was endorsed by the president, despite ongoing public protests across the nation.

The president is entitled to ink such a law within 15 days after its endorsement by the constitutional council.

Labor unions meanwhile urged Macron to abstain from proclaiming the law reiterating opposition to holding direct talks with the government at present.
