Japan PM, German Chancellor affirm specific coop.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Friday confirmed their intention to form specific bilateral cooperation on the basis of such outcomes from their governments’ dialogue two months ago, Japan’s Foreign Ministry said.

During their talks in Hiroshima, western Japan, prior to the three-day summit of the Group of Seven (G-7) major democracies beginning Friday, Kishida and Scholz shared the view that the first meeting of the Japan-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations in March in Tokyo produced “important outcomes in further expanding and deepening bilateral cooperations, particularly in the field of economic security,” the ministry said in a press release.

The two leaders vowed to continue to impose strict sanctions against Russia and provide strong support for Ukraine, and confirmed their intention to convey to the world the G-7’s determination to maintain a free and open international order based on the rule of law and to demonstrate unwavering solidarity with Ukraine at the G-7 Hiroshima Summit.

In addition, Kishida and Scholz agreed to continue to work closely together in dealing with various issues concerning China and North Korea. They also discussed the importance of cooperation with the countries of the Global South and affirmed their commitment to work closely together to this end.

Scholz is visiting Japan to attend the summit meeting of the G-7, which consists of Britain, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Japan and the US.
