Amman: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said Saturday that work is underway to evacuate to Egypt 63 Jordanians from the Gaza Strip, who were allowed to leave through the Rafah border crossing.
Official spokesman of the ministry Sufyan Al-Qudah said a team from the Jordanian embassy in Cairo has been on the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing since the evacuations began, and will supervise the evacuation.
The embassy team was receiving the Jordanian evacuees and providing them with assistance and medical care, and transporting them by bus to the port of Nuweiba and on to Cairo in the journey back home, he said.
The spokesman said a total of 1,135 registered Jordanians were in Gaza before the war began, and that 666 of them had been evacuated.
He called on Jordanian citizens still there to contact the ministry for help.
