JPMC, Turkish firm team up to build new phosphoric acid plant in Ma’an

The Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC) and the Turkish Transpet Petroleum and Energy company on Monday signed an agreement to build a joint phosphoric acid plant in the Sheidiya region of Ma’an Governorate. The new plant, which will have an annual production capacity of 165,000 tons of P2O5, is expected to play a key role in meeting the growing demand for phosphates both domestically and internationally, creating 300 jobs in the region and generating significant revenue for the local economy. Muhammad Thunaibat, the chairman of JPMC’s board of directors, and Ramazan Osturk, the chairman of the Turkish Company’s board of directors, both signed the deal, which is a result of efforts to forge a successful partnership between the two sides. During the signing ceremony, the two officials stressed the need to foster and enhance the cooperation between Jordan and Turkiye in order to further serve the two countries’ shared interests. Thunaibat stated that JPMC is eagerly anticipating the new partnership with the Turkish Transcept, which will lead to the exchange of experiences, particularly in the field of the phosphate fertilizers industry, and lure more Turkish investments to Jordan, reiterating the company’s readiness to do whatever is necessary to strengthen the Jordanian-Turkish relationship. “JPMC has a bold goal to grow the manufacturing sector, diversify its revenue streams, increase production and sales to international markets, and open up new markets,” he added. He indicated that the agreement with the Turkish firm is an addition to a number of agreements JPMC has made with other foreign counterparts involved in the phosphate and phosphate fertilizer industry, in order to strengthen its position at the local, regional, and international levels. For his part, Osturk praised the agreement for helping to strengthen relationships between institutions and businesses in the public and private sectors of Jordan and Turkiye.
