Pres. Biden nominates Gen. Brown as Chief of Joint Staff

US President Joe Biden announced on Thursday his intent to nominate Air Force General Charles Q. Brown Jr. as the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Gen. Brown, the first person of African descent to hold the post, is to replace Gen. Mark A. Miley.

President Biden commended him in speech at the White House as “a warrior descended from a proud line of warriors.” “His father, a US Army colonel, CQ Brown, served in Vietnam. “His grandfather, US Army Master Sergeant Robert E. Brown Jr. led a segregated unit in World War II and the command pilot, General Brown, brings to this role more than 3,000 hours of fighting flying experience including 130 combat hours,” Biden noted. “General Brown is also a war fighter who’s commanded in Europe, the Middle East and in the Indo-Pacific, and he has an unmatched firsthand knowledge of our operations, operational theaters and a strategic vision to understand how they all work together to ensure the security for the American people.

“General Brown has built a reputation across the force as an unflappable and highly effective leader, as someone who creates an environment of teamwork, trust and — and then executes with excellence.

“Over the past three years as chief of staff of the Air Force, General Brown has become known for his signature approach, accelerate, change or lose. Accelerate, change or lose. General, you’re right on. “As I’ve often said, our world is at an inflection point where the decisions we make today are going to determine the course of our world for decades to come,” the Presdent went on.

“With General Brown as chairman, I know I’ll be able to rely on his advice as a military strategist and as a leader of military innovation dedicated to keeping our armed forces the best in the world and they are the best in the history of the world. And that’s a fact. “I’ll also be able to realign them for a thoughtful, deliberate leader who is unafraid to speak his mind, as someone who will deliver an honest message that needs to be heard,” he added.

According to the US Air Force website, Gen. Brown has commanded a fighter squadron, the U.S. Air Force Weapons School, two fighter wings and U.S. Air Forces Central Command.

Prior to serving as the Air Force Chief of Staff, Gen. Brown was the commander of Pacific Air Forces, Air Component Commander for US Indo-Pacific Command.

Gen. Brown is a command pilot with more than 3,000 flying hours, including 130 combat hours.
