Two-thirds of Gaza buildings have been damaged, says UN

Two-thirds of buildings in the Gaza Strip have been damaged since October 2023, the United Nations said on Monday.

The UN satellite center, UNOSAT, said that high-resolution imagery collected on September 3 and 6 showed a clear deterioration.

“This analysis shows that two-thirds of all buildings in the Gaza Strip have been damaged, representing 66 percent of the 163,778 damaged buildings in the Gaza Strip,” according to the UN’s news center.

The center estimated that the damage now includes 52,564 buildings destroyed, 18,913 buildings severely damaged, 35,591 buildings structurally damaged, and 56,710 buildings moderately damaged.

Meanwhile, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and UNOSAT said that nearly 68 percent of permanent crop fields in the Gaza Strip recorded a significant decline in crop health and density in September.
