‫هواوي تفوز بجائزة WWF Climate Solver لعام 2020

Union Properties launches phase 1 of AED 500 million ‘Motor City Hills’

DUBAI, Union Properties PJSC has signed an investment agreement with leading real estate company AQUA Properties to launch “Motor City Hills” in Motor City.

This will be a unique project, the first of its kind in the region. Phase 1 of the project consists of 415 three-story townhouse villas with an area of up to 3,000 square feet (sq ft), and include 4 bedrooms. Aqua Properties will play an exclusive role in the marketing and sales operations.

Jafza, Dubai Courts launch first virtual court in Middle East to handle labour litigation

DUBAI, The Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) and the Dubai Courts has launched a Virtual Court to handle labour litigation involving companies operating within the free zone and their employees, as part of Jafza’s efforts to establish excellence in its integrated business environment and digital ecosystem.

The court is equipped with a live broadcast system linked to the Dubai Courts, maintained under the highest levels of electronic security. Judges can also conduct hearings and adjudicate and access all details using an electronic link with Jafza’s digital labour contracts system and other related information to issue their verdicts.

The move follows a cooperation agreement signed in 2019, in the presence of Major General Obaid Muhair bin Suroor, Deputy Director-General of the GDRFA in Dubai and Chairman of the Permanent Committee for Labour Affairs in Dubai, to establish a labour court that uses live broadcasting technology to handle litigation involving companies operating from the free zone and its business units.

The Virtual Court, located in Jafza Building 14, is equipped with everything required for the litigation process, similar to traditional courthouses at the Dubai Courts’ headquarters. It is also supported by state-of-the-art cybersecurity systems, which enable judges, lawyers, companies and litigants to remain constantly connected.

Al Qassimi Women’s and Children’s Hospital successfully performs 12 robotic surgeries for pelvic diseases

SHARJAH, The Emirates Health Services (EHS) announced that Al Qassimi Hospital for Women & Children, in cooperation with the Visiting Consultants Program, has successfully performed 12 surgeries to treat pelvic diseases using the surgical robot within five days.

With this achievement, Al Qassimi Hospital enhances its leadership at the local level as the first health body to conduct over 151 robotic surgeries since February 2019.

This remarkable achievement underpins the successes of the Robotic Surgery Program in Gynecology which was developed by the EHS in order to deepen the use of robotic surgeries in several medical specialties and promote the use of artificial intelligence as a practical approach in health services.

Also, this new success consolidates the achievements of the Visiting Consultants Office in terms of achieving the EHS’s strategic goals in the field of robotic surgeries.

The surgical cases included the removal of fibroids, severe bleeding, infertility, ovarian cysts, and complex tumors, in addition to Urological gynecological surgeries, pelvic muscle relaxation, and uterine prolapse.

Supervised by the visiting consultant Dr. Labib Riachi, a Robotic Gynecology specialist, the operations were carried out by the Gynecologic surgeons assisted by the Visiting Consultants Office.

The support of Al Qassimi Women’s & Children’s Hospital with state-of-the-art technologies led to the development of health and treatment services, especially in the field of gynecology, and contributed to performing delicate surgeries efficiently and professionally, said Dr. Yousef Mohammed Al Serkal, Director-General, EHS.

Al Serkal added that the EHS is keenly committed to providing the latest therapeutic approaches and specialized, comprehensive and innovative health services based on artificial intelligence techniques and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, noting that robotic surgery is distinguished by its ability to perform the most difficult surgeries.

This is pursuant to the directions of the UAE government to be a center of excellence in the Middle East in the field of integrating artificial intelligence into medical services using robotic surgeries in all medical specialties and to provide the highest levels of health care according to international standards.

He lauded the great competence of the medical staff at Al Qassimi Women’s & Children’s Hospital in performing complex robotic surgeries in cooperation with the Visiting Doctors Program, underscoring the EHS’s commitment to constantly developing its hospitals in accordance with the highest international standards.

Al Serkal continued to say that the EHS is eager to make the most of the Visiting Doctors Program by enhancing cooperation and exchange of experiences between the EHS’s doctors and visiting consultants, as well as strengthening the communication with the most prestigious international centers in order to raise the efficiency of the medical staff and develop levels of health and treatment care in accordance with the highest international quality standards.

Dr. Safia Al Khaja, Director of Al Qassimi Women’s & Children’s Hospital, EHS, said that conducting such surgeries confirms the success of the Robotic Surgery Program in the Gynecology field in promoting the use of artificial intelligence in therapeutic and health services.

This comes in line with the trends of modern medicine towards the growing use of robots and artificial intelligence, she added.

Al Khaja attributed the use of robots in surgeries to their ability to reach the most difficult parts of the body with high degree of accuracy due to the stability of the robotic arm, in addition to being less stressful for doctors and less painful for patients.

She commended the role of the surgical team of the hospital in performing successful robotic surgeries in cooperation the Visiting Consultants Office.

Race to gain followers; lack of credibility are key problems of social media influencers

SHARJAH, The 10th edition of the International Government Communication Forum (IGCF 2021) hosted a series of key discussions on the sidelines of the two-day forum to raise awareness and understanding about the significant role played by public communications and empower the youth, social media influencers and government communication departments.

The featured talks included ‘Influencers’ Forum: Infodemic’ and ‘Youth forum: The fifth generation of ideas’, among others.

Influencers Forum: Infodemic.

The session was moderated by popular TV presenters Haitham Alhammadi and Nada Al Shaibani. Both emphasised the importance of cooperation between government communication departments and social media influencers, which could limit the infodemic, reaffirming the role of media institutions that are founded on the principles of accuracy and credibility.

Participants of the session, including prominent social media influencers from across the Arab world, media figures and students, lauded them for sharing their industry perspectives.

Haitham said, “There are many social media influencers who post news without verifying its authenticity and source to increase their following which is one of the major reasons behind the infodemic.”

Nada Al Shaibani argued, “Many users on social media are influenced by what celebrities post. The race to gain followers and lack of credibility are top problems of social media influencers. This may lead to crisis and false news.”

Participants also noted the criteria needed to integrate influencers into government communication departments — post a thorough analysis of their profiles, the type of content they create on their social platforms, and the efforts they undertake to verify the accuracy and authenticity of the content they post.

The fifth generation of ideas.

The ‘Fifth generation of ideas’ session was moderated by TV presenter Marwan Al Shehhi and YouTube Content Creator Maitha Mohammed. They both speakers highlighted the role the youth play in helping achieve national identity of a country.

Al Shehhi stressed that the youth are the foundation of the future and they continue to help in the move to increase the knowledge of the younger generation, especially with the rapid advancement of technological innovations, including the emergence of social media platforms.

Maitha Mohammed shined the light on the tools and skills that are needed to invest in the youth – empowering them with the required skill sets like time management and setting priorities, which can help in the move to achieve their goals.

The session also reviewed the challenges resulting from the pandemic, both positive and negative impacts caused by these extraordinary times. Both speakers agreed that the pandemic encouraged today’s youth to evaluate and prioritise their goals, while others had their projects and ambitions hindered by the pandemic.

UAE to celebrate World Tourism Day

ABU DHABI, The UAE will celebrate World Tourism Day on 27th September, held this year under the theme, “Tourism for Inclusive Growth,” as the country remains a comprehensive and inspiring model in addressing the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, and has become one of the fastest recovering countries from the crisis.

The UAE is expecting a promising tourism season as Expo 2020 Dubai, which is one of the most important and momentous events in the world, transforming the country for six months into a leading global destination that will attract millions of visitors from over 190 countries.

The UAE has gradually resumed regular activities in the tourism sector and started welcoming tourists from around the world. It also announced that fully vaccinated tourists will be allowed to enter the country.

The high occupancy rate of tourism establishments underscores the recovery of the country’s tourism sector and the significant trust in its procedures, aimed at ensuring the highest levels of health and safety for tourists.

Industry statistics have shown a significant increase in the total revenues of hotels, as well as their occupancy rates, reaching AED11.3 billion and 62 percent occupancy in the first half of 2021, compared to AED8.6 billion and 53.6 percent in the first half of 2020.

The total number of hotel guests in the first half of 2021 amounted to 8.3 million from around the country, a 15 percent increase compared to the same period in the previous year, while local hotel guests in the first half of 2021 numbered 2.3 million, compared to 1.3 million in the same period of 2020.

The UAE’s tourism sector is a key income source for its diversification policy, contributing over AED161 billion to GDP, which is expected to rise to AED234.2 billion in 2027. Domestic tourism contributed AED41 billion to the national economy last year with expectations that it will continue to increase.

The UAE recently adopted several decisions and procedures aimed at modernising the tourism and travel sector and accelerating its recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, including the launch of long-term and multiple entry visas.

The UAE also launched a joint action plan between the Ministry of Economy and local tourism departments and authorities, aimed at increasing the number of international tourists and opening new tourism markets by launching widespread promotional campaigns promoting promising destinations.

Coinciding with the countdown to Expo 2020 Dubai, hotel reservations around the country witnessed a surge in demand, with many hotels located near the event having a 100 percent occupancy rate.

For the first time, the UAE recently obtained the support of member states of the World Tourism Organisation Regional Committee for membership in its Executive Council.

The impact of COVID-19 on tourism will cost the world economy US$4 trillion. Developing countries will be among the most affected ones, according to World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO).

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a massive social and economic impact. Both developed and developing economies have been hit. And marginalized groups and the most vulnerable have been hit hardest of all. The restart of tourism will help kickstart recovery and growth. It is essential that the benefits this will bring are enjoyed widely and fairly.

Tourism is a recognised pillar of most – if not all – the Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs), particularly Goals 1 (no poverty), 5 (gender equality), 8 (decent work and economic growth) and 10 (reduce inequalities).

On this World Tourism Day, the COVID-19 pandemic represents an opportunity to rethink the future of the tourism sector. Tourism has a unique ability to make sure nobody is left behind, as recognised by the Second Principle of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its SDGs.
