Dmytro Firtash unequivocally opposes Russia’s invasion of his homeland, Ukraine.

Mr. Firtash is taking every step he can to do whatever possible to protect Ukrainian sovereignty, Ukraine’s democratically elected government, and his fellow Ukrainian citizens.  Mr. Firtash is currently confined to Austria exercising his right to contest an extradition request from the United States government related to United States charges that he denies.  Mr. Firtash is not asking for any changes to the status of his Austrian extradition proceedings other than to have Austrian authorities allow him the temporary ability to return to Ukraine to do what he can in the defense of his country.  He has told Austrian authorities that he will return to Austria at the end of the Ukrainian emergency or at the request of Austrian authorities.  Mr. Firtash simply wishes to return to his homeland to help in its time of crisis.

Mr. Firtash opposes Russia’s unprovoked and uncalled for invasion.  He believes there is no reason the Russian people should want this war.  Likewise, he believes the Ukrainian people do not want this war.  Ukraine is not a threat to Russia.  The world community should do everything possible to allow Ukraine and the Ukrainian people to remain strong and independent.

More than 120,000 benefit from ERC’s winter aid in Jordan

AMMAN, The Emirates News Agency (WAM) has intensified its humanitarian efforts and relief programmes to reduce the repercussions of the severe cold and bad weather conditions on the lives of the affected and refugees in Jordan.

The country provided more winter aid to benefit more than 120,000 people in several Jordanian governorates. The assistance included heating devices, blankets, and winter clothes, along with food parcels and children’s supplies.

The ERC team present in Jordan supervised the distribution of assistance to the affected Jordanians and the Syrian refugees in the Emirati-Jordanian Mrajeeb Al Fhood Camp and other camps in Jordan.

Aid was also distributed outside camps to relatives or those hosted by Jordanian families. The UAE philanthropic organisation has allocated a large amount of aid to vulnerable segments, people of determination, the elderly and children, to protect them from the low temperatures and severe cold and limit the outbreak of winter diseases.

In cooperation with the Emirati-Jordanian Mrajeeb Al Fhood Camp management, the ERC delegation moves daily relief convoys to the Jordanian neighbourhoods and refugee camps on the Syrian-Jordanian border to secure the refugees’ needs for food, clothing and shelter.

The delegation is undertaking various other humanitarian tasks, foremost of which is to inspect the conditions of the affected and refugees, identify their needs and respond promptly.

Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi, Secretary-General of the ERC, emphasised that the aid is part of the ERC’s winter campaign within the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the ERC, to help those affected by cold waves and weather conditions in 26 countries across the world.

He added that the ERC has intensified its programmes to support the targeted segments in various Jordanian cities and regions since the beginning of the winter.

He indicated that the Emirati philanthropic organisation’s strategy is to support the Syrians and strengthen the efforts of Jordan in alleviating the suffering of refugees, improving their humanitarian conditions and supporting initiatives that provide greater care for them in various health, educational, social and living fields.

ABU DHABI T20 COMMUNITY CUP LAUNCHES NEW STRATEGIC VISION FOR CRICKET IN ABU DHABI

Both Abu Dhabi Cricket Council (ADCC) and Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) hope the inaugural Abu Dhabi T20 Community Cup can propel community cricketers towards Team Abu Dhabi programs and the UAE national team as part of its strategy for developing the game in the country.

The inaugural Abu Dhabi T20 Community Cup came to a close on Monday evening as Department of Health beat LLH Hospital Cricket Club in the final at Abu Dhabi Cricket’s Tolerance Oval that was also broadcast live on YouTube.

A total of 28-teams took part in the competition that kicked off the community restructuring for cricket in Abu Dhabi, launched at the end of 2021. The new strategic vision for cricket in the UAE capital has at its core a renewed committment to the sport at its grassroots level from ADCC and ADSC.

As well as debuting the new flagship tournament, Abu Dhabi Sports Council also unveiled four new Community Ovals at Abu Dhabi Cricket that are purpose-built for community use and increase the square-footage of cricket-specific surfaces to 115,250 m2 at the multi-sports hub.

HE Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of ADSC, said: “It’s fantastic to see community cricket take centre stage once again in Abu Dhabi. The next step in our evolution for the sport in the emirate is to prioritise community cricket, which is why Abu Dhabi Cricket Council and Abu Dhabi Sports Council have committed to the creation of four dedicated community ovals.

“Abu Dhabi’s strategic development of world-class sporting infrastructure is aimed at providing our junior and community players with one of the world’s premier cricket offerings. The development pathway from junior and community cricket right up to Team Abu Dhabi programmes is now in full swing, and thriving.”

Abu Dhabi Cricket Council CEO Matt Boucher hopes that the success of this first tournament on the calendar will provide opportunities that go on to benefit UAE cricket at all levels.

Boucher said: “One of our key priorities for 2022 onwards is to improve our ability to host competitive – and uninterrupted – junior and senior cricket tournaments at Abu Dhabi Cricket, whilst we are hosting international events. The recent infrastructure commitment from Abu Dhabi Sports Council is critical to this vision, allowing us to now function over seven top class dedicated cricket surfaces at the same time.

“Our new vision started with the Abu Dhabi T20 Community Cup and now rolls into the remainder of our seven-tournament community season, with the pathway open for our community to realise their dreams via our Team Abu Dhabi representative programme by participating in T10, T20 and 50-over cricket. From there, we hopefully feed them into the UAE national team.”

Next up on the community calendar is the eight-team Abu Dhabi T10 Super Cup, which has a women’s tournament for the first time, while the Nations Cup, League of School, Abu Dhabi Ramadan Rumble and Super 60 Sixes are all still to come before the end of the season.
