Abu dhabi: The inaugural Abu Dhabi World Grappling Championship 2025, organized by International Vision Sports Management (IVSM), commenced today at ADNEC Centre Al Ain. The three-day event, which will run until August 3, is attracting over a thousand athletes from more than 60 countries to the Al Ain Region for an anticipated showcase of elite grappling.
According to Emirates News Agency, this initiative is held in partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi and under the umbrella of Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro (AJP). Present on the opening day were notable figures such as Saeed Al Dhaheri, Destination Management Department Director at the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, Tareq Al Bahri, General Manager of International Vision Sports Management, and Kenneth Milimo Nganga, Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya to the UAE.
The first day of the championship featured matches in the professional divisions up to the semi-final stage. Athletes delivered performances in front of an engaged audience, with many securing spots in the finals and a chance to earn 2,000 AJP ranking points along with cash prizes.
Tareq Al Bahri, General Manager of International Vision Sports Management, remarked on the championship’s significance, stating it is a valuable addition to Abu Dhabi’s roster of local and international events. He emphasized the event’s role in providing a professional platform for grappling athletes to showcase their talent globally.
Abdullah Saqr Abdullah, an athlete from M.O.D Academy in the 85 kg professional division, shared that extensive preparation went into the competition, given its high level and new challenges. He noted the competitiveness of the matches and the large number of participants pushing athletes to perform at their best.
The official championship shirt was unveiled during a press conference at ADNEC Centre Al Ain, and the championship is set to continue with increased intensity as the youth and amateur divisions begin. The final day is expected to deliver excitement, with playoffs and finals determining the top names in global grappling.
