ADNOC L and S Partners with REGENT for Electric Seaglider Offshore Transport Trial

Abu Dhabi: ADNOC Logistics and Services plc (ADNOC L and S), a global leader in energy maritime logistics, has announced a partnership with US-based REGENT to trial their high-speed electric seaglider, known as the ‘Viceroy’, for offshore personnel transportation. The announcement was made at the ‘Make it in the Emirates’ event in Abu Dhabi.

According to Emirates News Agency, the proof-of-concept trial aims to assess the suitability of REGENT’s seaglider for transporting personnel to and from offshore energy infrastructure. This initiative marks the first phase in a potential multi-stage deployment that could see the technology integrated more broadly across ADNOC L and S’s offshore logistics operations.

REGENT plans to manufacture its electric seagliders in the UAE, enhancing local manufacturing capabilities and strengthening the country’s industrial base. The trial will be conducted by a UAE-based seaglider operator, adding in-country value and positioning the UAE as a hub for advanced maritime innovation.

Captain Abdulkareem Al Masabi, CEO of ADNOC L and S, emphasized the company’s commitment to innovative technologies that enhance safety, sustainability, and efficiency. He noted that the collaboration with REGENT is a significant step towards decarbonizing offshore logistics and aligns with the ‘Make it in the Emirates’ initiative by developing future-ready maritime capabilities in the UAE.

The Viceroy seaglider can carry up to 12 passengers or 1,600 kilograms of cargo and reach speeds of up to 300 kilometers per hour. Its versatility allows it to operate in floating, foiling, and flying modes, offering unique advantages over traditional offshore transport methods such as helicopters, with up to 80% lower operational costs. The craft is equipped with advanced sensors and automated controls for safe and reliable operations.

Billy Thalheimer, Co-founder and CEO of REGENT, expressed enthusiasm for partnering with ADNOC L and S, highlighting the potential of seagliders to reduce time, cost, and emissions in offshore energy logistics. The trial supports ADNOC Group’s broader Net Zero by 2045 ambition and the UAE’s strategic objectives to foster innovation, sustainability, and national industrial growth.
