Al Jalila Foundation Building Earns LEED Gold Certification for Sustainability

Dubai:The Al Jalila Foundation building has been awarded the LEED Gold certification by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) under the LEED EBOM (Existing Buildings Operations and Maintenance) rating system. This certification is a recognition of the building's adherence to environmental sustainability, resource efficiency, and indoor environmental quality standards.

According to Emirates News Agency, the certification was presented to Dr. Amer Al Zarooni, CEO of Al Jalila Foundation, by Mohammed Abdulghaffar Hussain, Chairman of Positive Zero, during a visit by a Positive Zero delegation to the foundation. Representatives from both entities were present at the event.

The certification evaluates a building's performance across several criteria, including operational and maintenance efficiency, energy efficiency, water consumption, and indoor environmental quality. The Al Jalila Foundation has implemented various sustainable solutions to support a healthier environment, improving indoor air quality, optimizing resource use, and reducing its environmental footprint.

In 2024, the foundation launched a solar energy project in collaboration with Positive Zero, a leading energy transition company in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. This project involved the installation, operation, and maintenance of solar energy systems across its buildings and parking facilities. The building received the certification in 2026 after a 12-month assessment of its operational performance, which included data on energy and water consumption, waste management, and indoor environmental quality.

Sustainable practices at the building include the installation of photovoltaic solar panels in parking areas to generate renewable energy, development of building management systems, use of energy-efficient LED lighting, and reliance on a district cooling system. Spaces were also allocated for storing recyclable materials, and green cleaning practices were implemented.

Dr. Amer Al Zarooni stated that achieving LEED Gold certification reflects Dubai Health's commitment to environmental sustainability and operational excellence. He emphasized the foundation's dedication to innovative solutions that reduce energy consumption and optimize resource use.

David Auriau, CEO of Positive Zero, highlighted that the certification confirms the foundation's commitment to improving building performance through integrated energy solutions, supporting the UAE's sustainability ambitions.
