Abu dhabi: Throughout June, the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC) conducted a series of reading sessions under its Kalima Reading Club programme, engaging with various community segments across the city.
According to Emirates News Agency, these sessions were organized in collaboration with government entities and cultural institutions, taking place at different locations in Abu Dhabi. The discussions centered around books published by the Centre's Esdarat project and the Kalima Project for Translation. The initiative is part of the ALC's mission to strengthen the use of the Arabic language, promote a culture of reading, and empower community members, especially the younger generation, with knowledge and critical thinking skills.
The events were structured with a timetable that included carefully selected books to meet diverse knowledge needs. Notably, one session at Emirates Palace featured the novel 'Years of Al Maghar' by Emirati author Maryam Al Zarooni, in partnership with Al Multaqa Literary Salon. Another session at Manarat Al Saadiyat focused on 'Happiness Paradox' by Ziyad Marar, offering a philosophical look at human anxieties. A cultural discussion on 'Portrait of Jennie' by Robert Nathan is also planned for June 29, in collaboration with the Department of Community Development - Abu Dhabi.
These sessions aim to encourage sustained reading, enhance participants' intellectual growth through discourse, and improve critical thinking and expression skills-key objectives of the Kalima Reading Club. Since its launch in 2018, the Club has sought to transform reading from an individual activity into a community practice, supporting Abu Dhabi's strategic vision to advance the Arabic language and promote sustainable reading habits across generations.
