Aldar Unveils AED 40 Billion Fahid Island as Abu Dhabi’s First Coastal Wellness Destination

Abu Dhabi: Aldar today unveiled the masterplan for Abu Dhabi's next iconic island destination, Fahid Island, which boasts an 11km coastline and a gross development value of over AED 40 billion. With 4.6km of pristine beachfront on one side and serene mangrove forests on the other, the island is designed as a wellness sanctuary offering a seamless connection to the water.

According to Emirates News Agency, every part of the 2.7 million sqm island is no more than a five-minute walk to the water's edge, creating a vibrant island culture with refined coastal residences, curated leisure, and 5-star hospitality. Aldar has partnered with a leading international institution to introduce an elevated education experience to Fahid Island, aligning with Abu Dhabi's vision to become a regional hub for excellence in education. This educational institution will become a significant part of the community, providing a key differentiator for family life on the island.

Fahid Island stretches between Abu Dhabi's desirable lifestyle destination, Yas Island, and its cultural centre, Saadiyat Island. The island merges entertainment and culture with wellness, offering a mix of city and sand, retail and relaxation, energy and serenity, all with exceptional connectivity. Yas Island's theme parks, Saadiyat Island's Cultural District, and Zayed International Airport are reachable within 15 minutes.

Mohamed Al Mubarak, Chairman of Aldar, emphasized Abu Dhabi's blend of heritage and innovation, stating that sustainable and inclusive development is crucial to the emirate's success. He noted that Fahid Island builds on the success of Saadiyat and Yas Islands, setting a new benchmark in premium waterfront living, wellness, and sustainable design.

Talal Al Dhiyebi, Group CEO of Aldar, highlighted the strong demand in Abu Dhabi's real estate market from both local and overseas investors. He noted that Fahid Island, with its gross development value of over AED 40 billion, is one of the largest mixed-use residential masterplans launched in Abu Dhabi, reinforcing the emirate's position as a desirable destination for living, investment, and tourism.

Fahid Island is the world's first Fitwel certified island, emphasizing its health-focused design. It has received LEED City and Communities Platinum precertification and is targeting an Estidama 3-Pearl rating. The masterplan promotes eco-friendly mobility and connectivity, with pedestrian bridges and a streetscape designed to prioritize foot traffic and outdoor thermal comfort.

Aldar has collaborated with renowned architects, including Kengo Kuma and Koichi Takada, to design the island's residential offerings. Further developments are being designed by ACME and NAGA Architects. More than 6,000 luxury residences, ranging from apartments and townhouses to ultra-luxury villas, are planned. Fahid Beach Residences, the first residential development, offers a limited collection of seven buildings, each with 65 residences, setting a new standard for exclusive beachfront living in Abu Dhabi.
