Bahrain Condemns Iranian Drone Attack on Its Territory

Abu dhabi: Bahrain has strongly condemned the Iranian drone attack targeting its territory early on Saturday, denouncing it as a flagrant violation of its sovereignty and a threat to the safety of its citizens and residents.

According to Emirates News Agency, Bahrain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement declaring that the attack constituted a violation of the Kingdom's sovereignty and posed a threat to the security of Bahraini citizens and residents. It further described the attack as a breach of international norms and conventions that prohibit attacks on civilian objects and the terrorizing of civilians.

The ministry highlighted that Iran's continued attacks occur at a time when regional and international efforts are focused on de-escalation. It emphasized that Tehran bears sole responsibility for undermining peace efforts and reflects a policy of destabilizing regional security, exporting chaos, and undermining stability.

The statement also referenced United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), submitted by Bahrain on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states and Jordan, which is supported by 136 countries. The ministry described this resolution as a broad expression of international consensus.

Furthermore, the ministry underscored that Tehran's continued attacks pose a direct challenge to the international consensus. It noted that Iran had committed, under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, to cease military operations permanently and respect the sovereignty of countries in the region.

Lastly, Bahrain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the nation's legitimate right to defend its sovereignty, security, and stability in accordance with international law. It called on the United Nations Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities by ensuring the implementation of the resolution and holding the aggressor accountable.
