Seoul: Thirteen people have succumbed to cholera in Chad following an outbreak that was officially declared in July, according to the health ministry. The outbreak has affected the northern province of Hadjer Lamis and the capital city, N'Djamena.
According to Emirates News Agency, as of Monday, nearly 240 individuals have been diagnosed with cholera. The health ministry's bulletin reported a total of "239 cases nationwide, including 13 deaths... a death rate of 5.4 percent." It was noted that 11 out of the 13 deaths occurred in N'Djamena during August.
Since the declaration of the outbreak on July 24th, approximately 50,800 people have been vaccinated. The initial fatalities were reported more than a month prior, on June 13th. Several African countries, including the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Nigeria, have also experienced cholera outbreaks in recent months.
