Abu dhabi: The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) exemplifies the 'Dubai-It' philosophy, a model championed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, which emphasizes the importance of execution alongside ambition in achieving success.
According to Emirates News Agency, DEWA has translated Dubai's vision into formidable infrastructure, innovative projects, and leading global performance metrics. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, stated that the Dubai-It initiative underscores Dubai's boundless ambition, emphasizing continuous development and transformational projects that anticipate the emirate's future requirements. DEWA's operations are distinguished by an integrated framework that combines visionary planning with strategic execution, ensuring Dubai's status as a global hub for sustainability.
DEWA leads globally in 13 key performance indicators, showcasing efficiency and reliability. It reported the world's lowest customer minutes lost for electricity and minimal network losses. This success is supported by smart technologies like the Automatic Smart Grid Restoration System, which maintains uninterrupted service.
A testament to the Dubai-It approach is the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park worldwide. This project, which exceeds initial capacity targets, highlights Dubai's ability to transform ambitious plans into reality. The solar park's innovative phases have set global records and further bolster Dubai's clean energy ecosystem.
DEWA's adoption of the independent power producer (IPP) model for the solar park has fostered public-private partnerships, attracting significant global investment and reducing renewable energy costs. This approach has not only led to local savings but also established benchmarks that influence the global shift toward sustainable energy.
Clean energy now comprises over 21.5% of Dubai's energy mix, with projections to reach 36% by 2030, aligning with Dubai's goal of 100% clean energy by 2050. DEWA's projects, including the Hatta Hydroelectric Power Plant, contribute to a resilient and sustainable energy ecosystem.
Investment in DEWA's Smart Grid Strategy, amounting to AED 7 billion, and the use of AI and digital technologies, exemplified by DEWA's virtual employee Rammas, illustrate its commitment to innovation and efficiency. These efforts position DEWA as a global benchmark in utility services and reinforce its role in shaping Dubai's sustainable future.
