Dozens Missing After Migrant Boat Capsizes Off Gambia Coast

Banjul: Dozens of people are still missing after a boat carrying more than 200 migrants capsized off the coast of Gambia, the country’s Defence Ministry said on Friday. The ministry reported that 96 people were rescued and seven bodies were recovered following the accident on Wednesday. The boat was discovered stranded on a sandbank.

According to Emirates News Agency, 10 of the survivors are in critical condition. The individuals on board the boat are believed to be from multiple African countries.

Every year, migrants from Gambia, Senegal, and other West African nations attempt the perilous journey to the Canary Islands, a Spanish archipelago, in hopes of reaching the European Union and finding a better life.
