Dubai Police Identify AI Innovations to Transform Policing by 2040

Dubai:Dubai Police have identified ten emerging opportunities in artificial intelligence (AI) set to revolutionize policing by 2040, enabling smarter investigations, autonomous patrols, proactive security systems, and more personalized public services.

According to Emirates News Agency, the findings were developed by Dubai Police's Future Foresight Centre, highlighting AI's potential to help law enforcement agencies evolve from traditional policing to more intelligent, flexible, and proactive operations. These advancements are expected to anticipate emerging risks and threats more effectively.

Brigadier Dr. Hamdan Ahmad Al Ghassiya, Director of the Future Foresight Centre at Dubai Police, noted that the World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report 2025 indicates 86 percent of surveyed employers foresee AI and information processing technologies transforming their businesses by 2030. He emphasized that by 2040, AI is anticipated to fundamentally alter the nature of policing, moving beyond its traditional role to executing complex security tasks alongside human personnel with varying degrees of autonomy.

This shift is poised to redefine responsibilities within police organizations, introducing new capabilities in criminal investigations, security operations, and responses to emerging threats. Changes will extend beyond technology, affecting management, task assignments, and decision-making processes. Systems capable of processing large data volumes and responding to security developments in real-time could enhance operating models, aiding police agencies in navigating complex security environments.

Al Ghassiya identified specific opportunities such as hyper-personalized services, AI agent swarms, proactive security sensing, AI-enhanced criminal investigations, physical AI, autonomous patrol systems, self-adaptive cybersecurity, cognitive operating models, hybrid human-AI teams, and generative security simulation.

Fatima Rashid Al Alili, Director of the Future Scenarios Department, emphasized that recognizing emerging AI opportunities is a strategic priority for boosting police readiness amid rapid technological changes. She stated that exploring these opportunities reflects Dubai Police's commitment to understanding emerging technologies and their potential impact on future security and law enforcement.

Al Alili added that these developments could open new avenues for strengthening policing capabilities, accelerating the shift towards proactive security, and adopting intelligent systems capable of learning and adapting, ultimately improving operational efficiency and enhancing security services for the community.
