Earthquake of 6 Magnitude Hits Off Indonesia’s Timor Island

Dubai: An earthquake of 6 magnitude struck offshore Indonesia's Timor island, the country's geophysics agency said on Tuesday, adding there was no tsunami risk from the quake. The epicentre was at a depth of 31 km (19 miles), the agency said.

According to Emirates News Agency, the seismic event occurred in the early hours, prompting assessments by local authorities to evaluate any potential impact on nearby communities. Despite the earthquake's magnitude, there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, and the situation remained calm.

The region is part of the Pacific "Ring of Fire," an area known for its seismic activity, including frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Local authorities have reiterated the importance of preparedness in the event of future seismic events, although the current situation has been deemed non-threatening.

The geophysics agency continues to monitor the situation closely and has assured the public that updates will be provided should there be any changes in the conditions. Residents are advised to remain informed through official channels for any further instructions or information.
