Brussels: In the first quarter of 2026, the EU's imports of petroleum oil remained stable compared with the monthly average in 2025. More specifically, the value of imports rose slightly by 0.8% while the volume recorded a minor decrease of 0.6%, according to figures released by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.
According to Emirates News Agency, the imports of liquefied natural gas experienced a decrease of 8.0% in value but saw an increase of 2.9% in volume. During the same period, imports of natural gas in its gaseous state also declined, with drops in both value, at 12.7%, and volume, at 4.0%.
The primary suppliers of petroleum oil to the EU in this period were the United States, accounting for 17.8%, followed by Norway at 16.6%, and Kazakhstan at 9.6%. The majority of liquefied natural gas imports came from the United States, representing 57.4%, with Russia and Qatar supplying 17.3% and 6.6%, respectively.
Norway was the leading supplier for natural gas in its gaseous state, providing 54.4% of the imports, followed by Algeria with 18.5%, and Russia at 9.8%.
