Lyon: For the first time in a century, a sitting African head of state has visited INTERPOL’s headquarters and received its highest accolade. Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al-Raisi, President of the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL), awarded President Umaro Sissoco Embal³ of Guinea-Bissau the INTERPOL Medal of the Highest Order. This marks President Embal³ as the first African leader to receive this prestigious honor.
According to Emirates News Agency, President Embal³’s visit to Lyon is significant as he is the first African head of state to tour the INTERPOL headquarters since its inception over one hundred years ago. The medal bestowed upon him is the pinnacle of distinction granted by INTERPOL, which boasts 196 member countries. It recognizes the outstanding contributions of heads of state and international leaders in enhancing global security cooperation and tackling organized crime, terrorism, and cyber threats.
