Health Minister meets Qatari Minister of International Co-operation

Egypt’s Health and Population Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met Qatari Minister of State for International Co-operation Lolwah al-Khater.

The two sides discussed ways of increasing health aid offered by Egypt and Qatar to Gaza.

In a statement on Sunday, Health Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said that the minister checked on the Palestinians who were injured and receive treatments in a number of Qatari hospitals.

Qatari Minister of State for International Co-operation Lolwah al-Khater lauded Egypt’s support for the Palestinian people.

Since the outbreak of the violence in the Gaza Strip, Egypt has emerged as one of the main supporters to the Palestinians, she added.

The Ministry of Health and Population indicated in a press statement Sunday that Egypt had received 2,200 injured Palestinians from Gaza Strip, and that 1,300 surgeries had been carried out.

The statement – released on the occasion of a visit paid by the Qatari health minister to coordinate the delivery of medical aid to Gazans – cla
rified that the injured Palestinians are transferred to 47 hospitals located across eight governorates.

Egypt has been the supplier of 70-80 percent of aid to Gaza, while the rest was granted by other countries and international organizations. The shipments were delivered to Arish International Airport on 461 jets, and handled by the Egyptian Red Crescent.
