Getxo: With a 16.5km-long solo attack, UAE Team Emirates-XRG's Isaac del Toro secured his eighth victory of the season at Sunday's Circuito de Getxo. The Mexican cyclist executed a decisive move on the final ascent of the Alto de Pike, maintaining his lead over the pursuers until the finish line in Getxo. This victory elevated UAE Team Emirates-XRG to 69 wins for the year.
According to Emirates News Agency, behind Del Toro, his teammate Juan Ayuso adeptly positioned himself among the chasers and sprinted to a second-place finish, securing another notable 1-2 outcome for the Emirati team. The victory at Circuito de Getxo followed Jan Christen's strong performance at the Cl¡sica San Sebasti¡n on Saturday, where Del Toro finished fifth.
Throughout the race, UAE Team Emirates-XRG effectively controlled the peloton. As a 10-man breakaway attempted to gain an advantage, team members Marcos Freire, Domen Novak, and Jay Vine worked to manage the gap, allowing the peloton to enter the final climb in a strong position.
At the base of Alto de Pike, Ayuso set a demanding pace, challenging their competitors. Del Toro then launched his decisive attack with 16.5km remaining, quickly establishing a 10-second lead by the summit of the climb.
