Abu Dhabi:M42's Insights Research Organisation and Solutions (IROS), an Abu Dhabi-based contract research organisation and part of the M42 Group, along with 10XREVIV, have announced the initiation of a clinical study. This study aims to evaluate the role of precision nutrition in supporting the nutritional health and well-being of patients receiving GLP-1 therapies and seeks to improve their overall treatment experience.
According to Wam, the study will leverage IROS's clinical research expertise in conjunction with 10XREVIV's precision nutrition system. It will compare the system alongside standard care with standard care alone. The evaluation will focus on various factors such as nutritional status, body composition, and patient-reported outcomes like fatigue, quality of life, and adherence, assessing outcomes beyond mere changes in body weight.
The study emerges against the backdrop of increasing use of GLP-1 therapies for weight management, which may lead to reduced appetite, food intake, and occasional gastrointestinal side effects, complicating patients' ability to meet their nutritional needs. Through this collaboration, IROS and 10XREVIV aim to provide clinical evidence to improve support for patients using GLP-1 therapies during their weight management journey.
The research also underscores Abu Dhabi's expanding capabilities in clinical research and its role in developing precision health solutions that meet emerging healthcare needs. Depending on the final study design and findings, this research could inform future nutritional support approaches during GLP-1 treatment both in the UAE and internationally.
A 2025 US study published in Obesity Pillars involving over 460,000 adults prescribed GLP-1 therapies found that 22.4% experienced a newly recorded nutritional deficiency or related complication within 12 months. Although most participants had type 2 diabetes, and the findings do not establish causation between GLP-1 medications and these conditions, the study emphasizes the need for assessing patients' nutritional status to prevent or manage deficiencies during treatment.
Joint guidance from leading US nutrition, lifestyle medicine, and obesity organizations similarly advocates for nutritional assessment, deficiency prevention, adequate protein intake, and resistance training for patients undergoing GLP-1 therapies.
David Kavanagh, General Manager, Omics at M42, stated, "Our collaboration with 10XREVIV reflects IROS's role in helping companies bring emerging health innovations into rigorous clinical research. We provide the study design, execution, and oversight expertise needed to turn promising concepts into structured clinical evaluations and generate evidence that can guide product development and clinical decisions."
Sarah Lomas, CEO REVIV Global and Co-Founder of 10XREVIV, added, "Our ambition is to help shape the future of precision nutrition and healthy longevity through a commitment to research-led innovation. This study is an important step in building the clinical evidence behind our work and reflects how we want to distinguish 10XREVIV through clinical research and measurable outcomes."
