Mohammed Bin Rashid Boards Etihad Rail Passenger Train for Pre-Launch Journey

Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, embarked on a historic journey aboard the Etihad Rail passenger train between Dubai and Fujairah, marking a significant milestone ahead of the train's anticipated commercial launch in 2026. This visit underscores his commitment to overseeing strategic infrastructure initiatives that align with the UAE's national development goals.

According to Emirates News Agency, the journey highlights the pivotal phase in the development of the UAE's national railway network. H.H. Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the Etihad Rail project as one of the UAE's most significant infrastructure undertakings with considerable economic, social, and developmental impacts. He described Etihad Rail as a vital economic artery that supports the UAE's future aspirations and strengthens the country's position as a leading logistics hub.

During the visit, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed was briefed by the Etihad Rail team on the project's progress and milestones. The team expressed pride in hosting His Highness, viewing the journey as a historic moment inspiring continued commitment to delivering a world-class national rail network. The project aims to enhance mobility, empower communities, and boost tourism and social development within the UAE.

H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Etihad Rail, highlighted the unwavering commitment of the UAE's leadership to national projects propelling the nation's progress. He praised the support received, which has been integral to the network's evolution from the 'Projects of the 50' announcement in 2021 to the current phase. The passenger train will connect 11 cities and regions, enhancing connectivity and economic integration across the UAE.

The passenger stations in Dubai and Fujairah will serve as crucial hubs within the national railway network, providing a safe, advanced, and sustainable mode of transport. The project is designed to offer a fully integrated travel experience, aligning with the UAE's pioneering role in transport and rail innovation.

The UAE's passenger rail project is among the region's most ambitious transport initiatives, reflecting a unified vision for integrated mobility and logistics. Once operational, trains will travel at speeds of up to 200 km/hr, with the first four passenger stations located in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah. The network is projected to accommodate up to 36.5 million passengers annually by 2030, contributing to enhanced accessibility and quality of life across the nation.
