Dubai: In collaboration with Dubai National Theatre, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library has launched an introductory acting workshop titled "Your First Step Towards the Stage." The programme, led by Emirati director Hamad Al Hammadi, aims to introduce participants to the fundamentals of theatrical performance and develop their expressive skills through theatre over a three-week period.
According to Emirates News Agency, the workshop's first week, which runs until July 10, has seen enthusiastic participation from UAE nationals and residents keen to delve into the world of performing arts. Participants are receiving hands-on training on the library's stage in Dubai. The opening week also featured appearances by notable Emirati theatre artists, including actor Abdullah Saleh Al Rumaithi, actor Mansour Al Feili, and director Aref Al Taweel, who shared their professional experiences with the attendees.
Hamad Al Hammadi explained that the workshop aims to prepare aspiring actors using a realistic methodology that helps them refine their talents. The training environment simulates a real theatrical production, guiding participants from theoretical knowledge to practical application. The focus is on developing participants' awareness of their artistic tools, enabling them to use the body, voice, ideas, and script as integrated elements in building a theatrical character.
Al Hammadi further emphasized that the programme seeks to identify each participant's strengths and guide them towards excelling in specific areas of theatre production, such as writing, acting, directing, or stage management. This approach is intended to help participants discover and develop their creative potential while deepening their understanding of the performing arts.
The workshop will culminate on July 10 with a theatrical performance created and presented by the participants. This event will provide an opportunity for them to showcase the skills and knowledge they have acquired throughout the programme to an audience of performing arts, theatre, and culture enthusiasts.
