Onshur Invites Aspiring Publishers to 2026 Launch Track for Sustainable Business Development

Abu dhabi: The Sharjah Publishing Sustainability Fund (Onshur) has opened applications for the 2026 edition of its 'Launch' track, aimed at helping aspiring publishers transform their publishing concepts into viable businesses through a specialised training programme. This initiative is backed by the Sharjah Book Authority's publishing ecosystem.

According to Emirates News Agency, the programme, established by H.H. Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), seeks to empower the regional Arabic publishing market and position the UAE as a leading global and regional hub for publishing technology. Applications for the Launch Track will be accepted from July 1 until August 30, 2026, through the official website, https://onshur.ae/. The programme is designed to equip participants with practical skills and industry knowledge, allowing them to launch sustainable publishing ventures capable of achieving long-term success.

After the registration period, applications will be assessed, and selected participants will join a series of training sessions starting in September 2026. The Launch track focuses on providing aspiring publishers with the knowledge, skills, and industry insights necessary to build sustainable publishing businesses. Through training, mentorship, and sector engagement, participants will delve into key areas such as content development, rights management, branding, operational planning, and market strategy. The programme also offers access to Sharjah's publishing ecosystem, assisting participants in navigating industry opportunities and establishing a solid foundation for growth.

Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of SBA, highlighted the importance of the programme, stating that the first edition of the Launch track demonstrated the value of investing in emerging publishers. He emphasized that this initiative reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to foster a publishing sector driven by knowledge and expertise.

Iman Ben Chaibah, Director of Strategic Initiatives and Global Markets at SBA, noted the challenges faced during the early stages of establishing a publishing business. She explained that the Launch track is designed to provide aspiring publishers with the necessary knowledge, practical experience, and industry insight to overcome these challenges and develop ventures with commercial and creative potential.

The programme offers expert-led sessions, practical workshops, and site visits, giving participants direct access to industry knowledge and business development expertise. Interactive activities and guided visits to SBA facilities and strategic partners will provide participants with insights into the infrastructure and professional networks that support Sharjah's publishing ecosystem.

Applicants are required to submit an overview of their publishing venture, including its development stage, focus, target audience, release plans, sales and distribution channels, and future growth priorities. This information will be used to assess each project's readiness and potential for expansion. The programme is open to both early-stage concepts and newly established publishing companies that have been operating for no more than three years.

At the programme's conclusion, participants will present their projects to a jury panel, competing for grants and business licences, followed by a graduation ceremony to celebrate their achievements.
