Public Security Chief urges awareness campaign of new traffic law

Public Security Directorate Director Major General Obaidullah Maaytah Monday urged the traffic department to launch an awareness campaign in cooperation with various media outlets on the newly-passed amendments to the traffic law. Among the amendments, which aim to reduce accidents and fatalities on the Kingdom's roads, are doubled fines for repeat offenses due to negligence, mobile phone use and running a red light. During a visit to the Highway Patrol Department, Maaytah commended the efforts of its personnel to protect lives and make roads safer. He called for enforcing the new traffic law and plans "with professionalism and discipline and without bias" through human and automated controls to ensure safety on local roads and highways and curb dangerous and disruptive violations. The Public Security Chief also stressed a concerted effort and partnership with social and educational institutions to promote a sound traffic culture, especially with Start of the new school year.
