Safadi, Iraqi parliamentary committee talk counter-drug cooperation

Lower House Speaker, Ahmed Safadi, on Sunday received head and members of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Committee in the Iraqi Parliament. During the meeting, the two sides discussed means of strengthening joint parliamentary cooperation in the field of combating drugs, according to a House statement. Jordan, under His Majesty King Abdullah II’s leadership, is keen to strengthen various aspects of cooperation with the Iraqi side, he said. Safadi added that the Kingdom will fully maintain support Iraq to thoroughly eliminate terrorism and confront scourge of drugs, which became a threat to the region. Moreover, he stressed importance to work jointly to confront security challenges in the region and coordinate between the two countries in confronting the drug threat, which threatens youth and societies. For his part, the committee’s head, Dr. Adnan Juhaishi, affirmed Iraq’s desire to enhance joint cooperation in this framework at the regional level, where drug danger is increasing. Juhaishi also pointed to his country’s efforts in this regard and the Iraqi parliament’s role through its specialized committee in confronting the drug threat.
