Sweden’s Industrial Output Falls 1.5% in June

Stockholm: Sweden's industrial production experienced a decline of 1.5% year-on-year in June 2026, marking a notable shift from the previous month's upwardly revised eight-month high of 7.6% growth. This downturn marks the first contraction since March 2025.

According to Emirates News Agency, the contraction was mainly driven by a significant decrease in mining production, which plummeted by 13.8% following an 8.5% increase in May. This drop significantly impacted the overall industrial output.

In addition to the downturn in mining, the manufacturing sector also saw a reduction in activity by 1%, compared to a 7.6% growth in the prior month. Weaker outputs in several areas contributed to this decline, including coke and refined petroleum products, which decreased by 3.6% compared to a previous fall of 5.7%. Rubber and plastic products fell by 4.4% after a 3.6% rise, while basic metals dropped by 3.8%, following a 3.2% decline.

Despite these declines, some sectors experienced growth. Textiles, clothing, and leather saw an increase of 3.5%, though down from 6.3% previously, and other non-metallic mineral products rose by 7.3% compared to an 11.1% increase earlier.

On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial output decreased by 0.4%, coming after an upwardly revised increase of 0.6% in the preceding period.
