Seoul: More than 5,000 people in the Republic of Korea have sought refuge in shelters as heavy rain continues to batter parts of the country for a third consecutive day. The relentless downpour has resulted in at least four fatalities and has caused extensive damage to property and infrastructure, as reported by the safety ministry.
According to Emirates News Agency, areas in the southern regions, including the city of Gwangju, have experienced unprecedented rainfall, with over 400 millimeters (16 inches) recorded in just 24 hours by early Friday. Torrential rain warnings are still active across most western and southern regions of the country. The weather service has issued advisories urging extreme caution against potential landslides and flooding, which are expected to persist through Saturday.
