UAE Advocates for Enhanced Euro-Mediterranean-Gulf Economic and Parliamentary Cooperation

Marrakesh: Saqr Ghobash, Speaker for the Federal National Council (FNC), emphasized the necessity of economic cooperation, parliamentary engagement, and expertise exchange between Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf nations to address swift economic and technological changes while promoting sustainable development.

According to Emirates News Agency, Ghobash articulated these views during the 4th Marrakesh Parliamentary Economic Forum for the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf Region. He highlighted the region's resources, markets, and expertise as pivotal elements for crafting a successful model of economic and developmental cooperation. Ghobash stressed the forum's role as a platform for converting shared aspirations into actionable initiatives, projects, and partnerships for the region's benefit.

Ghobash underscored that economic integration, trade and investment promotion, infrastructure and logistics development, and knowledge-sharing are essential to sustainable development and competitiveness. He emphasized the centrality of investing in people, pointing out the importance of empowering youth, enhancing education and training, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, and elevating women's participation in the economy.

He also remarked on the significant opportunities presented by advancements in technology, the digital economy, and artificial intelligence, advocating for continued investment in innovation, digital infrastructure, and skills development. Additionally, Ghobash emphasized sustainability, advocating for investments in the green economy, clean energy, and innovative solutions to support economic growth and sustainability.

Ghobash detailed the UAE's development model, which focuses on human capital, economic diversification, innovation, and sustainability while expanding global partnerships for shared prosperity and long-term growth. He highlighted the role of parliaments in supporting development through modern legislation, enhancing the investment environment, promoting innovation, and ensuring transparency and good governance.

He recognized parliamentary diplomacy as an effective conduit for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and support for initiatives enhancing economic and developmental cooperation. Ghobash called for parliaments to support development efforts through legislative reforms, economic initiatives, and stronger stakeholder engagement to tackle emerging challenges and opportunities.

Ghobash expressed optimism that the forum would yield practical initiatives and partnerships that bolster cooperation, supporting sustainable development and shared prosperity. He also noted the UAE's enduring relationship with Morocco, emphasizing the continued growth of bilateral relations across various sectors under their leaderships, which strengthen cooperation and partnership.
