Abu dhabi: In cooperation with the Republic of Paraguay, the United Arab Emirates has dispatched humanitarian assistance to communities affected by the recent earthquake in the Republic of Colombia. The disaster resulted in numerous deaths and injuries, alongside significant property damage.
According to Emirates News Agency, the aid initiative is part of a USD10 million humanitarian assistance package announced by the UAE, following directives from His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President. The UAE Aid Agency is responsible for coordinating these efforts to support those impacted by the earthquake.
The collaboration with Paraguay is instrumental, leveraging the country's production capacity and regional logistics networks. This strategy enables essential relief supplies to be purchased directly from Paraguayan markets and transported efficiently to Colombia. Such measures aim to expedite the delivery of aid to the hardest-hit areas, while simultaneously bolstering local suppliers, especially small and medium-sized enterprises.
Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, stated that the aid package demonstrates the UAE's solidarity with the Colombian people, ensuring that support aligns with the actual priorities and needs of the affected communities. She also expressed gratitude towards Paraguay for its role in facilitating the provision and transportation of humanitarian supplies, underscoring the significance of coordinated regional efforts in addressing urgent humanitarian challenges.
