UAE Show Jumpers Shine at Asian Games as Sailors and Jiu-Jitsu Competitors Gain Experience

Abu Dhabi:The UAE's show jumping riders excelled at the Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026, with all four advancing to the second round of the individual final. Humaid Abdulla Khalifa Al Muhairi, riding 'Mentos', secured third place with a clear round in 76.21 seconds, and Abdullah Humaid Al Muhairi, on 'Hudson de Vains', finished fifth with a clear round in 78.68 seconds over fences ranging from 1.45m to 1.50m. Sheikha Latifah Bint Ahmed Al Maktoum and 'Cornet XL' achieved a clear round in 74.06 seconds, placing them fourth over 1.55m fences, while Omar Abdul Aziz Al Marzooqi, riding 'Enjoy De La Mure', finished seventh in 70.96 seconds with four faults.

According to Emirates News Agency, UAE jiu-jitsu athletes also competed at the Games. In the men's under-85kg category, Faraj Al Awlaqi won 5-2 against Tajikistan's Ramshed Abdulloev in the round of 32 but fell 2-0 to Jordan's Osama Nabas in the round of 16. Saeed Al Kubaisi lost 4-2 to South Korea's Kim Mingyu in the round of 16. In the women's under-63kg category, Aisha Al Jneibi achieved a 13-0 victory over Vietnam's Ngo Thi Thao Van before losing by submission to Thailand's Orapa Senatham. Shamma Al Kalbani exited in the round of 16 after a 2-0 defeat to Vietnam's Nguyen Thi Minh Phuong.

UAE sailors also competed impressively, with Abdullah Al Zubaidi finishing seventh overall in the ILCA 7 class after 12 races, earning 68 points and winning the final race. Marwa Al Hammadi claimed sixth place overall in the ILCA 6 class with 49 points after securing second place in the final race.

Zuhair Al Labbatt, Technical Director of the UAE Sailing and Modern Rowing Federation, expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, noting their potential to win medals despite challenging conditions and some officiating decisions. He highlighted that the athletes demonstrated high-level competitiveness and ambition to achieve better results in the future.
