UAE Strengthens Role in Ukraine Recovery Efforts at Gdansk Conference

Abu dhabi: On behalf of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation and the Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to Ukraine, led a UAE delegation to the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC) 2026, which was held in Gdansk, Poland. Co-hosted by the governments of Poland and Ukraine, this year's conference brought together governments, international institutions, and the private sector to align global efforts in support of Ukraine's recovery, reconstruction, and long-term resilience.

According to Emirates News Agency, the UAE's participation in the conference for the third year reflected its firm commitment and steadfast support for the people of Ukraine, under the leadership of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The UAE has positioned itself as a trusted mediator in advancing diplomatic and humanitarian solutions, facilitating 25 rounds of prisoner exchanges and hosting trilateral talks between the United States, Ukraine, and Russia.

On the humanitarian front, the UAE has provided medical, food, and energy support, as well as generators, laptops, and school supplies to Ukraine. It is also working with European partners to advance educational continuity and economic resilience in the country. Economically, the UAE signed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with Ukraine in 2025, which is set to enter into force in July 2026, reflecting confidence in Ukraine's resilience and long-term role in global food security, logistics, and investment.

Earlier this year, the UAE-Ukraine Joint Committee convened in Abu Dhabi, bringing together nearly 30 public and private sector entities to explore economic partnerships in various fields. To further expand business relations, Al Hashimy visited exhibitions of Ukrainian companies at the conference and met with business leaders in key sectors.

On the sidelines of the conference, Al Hashimy met with Ukraine's Prime Minister Yulia Sverydenko and Minister of Economy Oleksii Sobolev to discuss joint economic partnerships and projects focusing on family-based care and psychosocial support for children affected by the conflict. Al Hashimy also held discussions with European and international partners, including Polish Deputy Prime Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, thanking Poland for its support and co-hosting the conference.

Al Hashimy's participation underscored the UAE's commitment to Ukraine, emphasizing the trust and partnerships built through its efforts. The UAE delegation included several high-ranking officials and representatives from the government and business sectors.
