UAE Unveils Strategic Plan for Enhancing Arab Archives at ICA Meeting in Barcelona


Barcelona: Dr. Abdullah Majed Al Ali, Director General of the National Archives and Library and Chairman of the Arab Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives (ARBICA), presented a comprehensive strategic plan aimed at advancing the Arab archives system. The plan is designed to build an integrated network to enhance archival work throughout the Arab world.



According to Emirates News Agency, the strategic plan focuses on developing young human capital by equipping them with modern skills in records management and digital archiving. It highlights the importance of adopting advanced systems based on artificial intelligence and innovative digital solutions to improve the efficiency of archival institutions, especially in preservation, description, accessibility, and digitization.



This initiative was unveiled during Dr. Al Ali’s participation in the Executive Board meeting of the International Council on Archives (ICA), a significant event for discussing global archival policies and programs. The meeting was held alongside the ICA Congress in Barcelona, Spain, from October 27 to 30.



In his address, Al Ali emphasized the need for stronger Arab cooperation in the archival field, advocating for training events, conferences, and specialized workshops to facilitate knowledge exchange. He stressed the importance of unifying efforts to create an integrated Arab archival environment that aligns with international best practices.



During the meeting, the Executive Board addressed key issues, including the development of future strategies for the ICA and its enhanced role in supporting archival institutions worldwide. Several important resolutions were passed to improve cooperation mechanisms and knowledge exchange among members, reinforcing archives’ role as vital sources of human memory and historical knowledge.



This involvement underscores the UAE’s leading role in supporting archival initiatives both regionally and globally.
