UN Secretary-General Advocates for Youth Inclusion and Investment on International Youth Day

Abu dhabi: UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres has called for a concerted effort to create a world where every generation can thrive, emphasizing the importance of unity among the world's youth.

According to Emirates News Agency, Guterres delivered this message on International Youth Day, marked annually on August 12. The day serves to recognize the potential of young people, celebrate their role as active global partners, and highlight the challenges they face. Guterres stated, "What unites the world's young people is greater than what divides them. The United Nations stands with youth everywhere in their call for investment and inclusion."

Guterres emphasized the significance of this year's theme, 'Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,' which underscores the shared hopes of young people worldwide for dignity, participation, and opportunity. He noted that the major challenges confronting younger generations, including economic uncertainty, digital inclusion, and climate change, require a coordinated global response.

Highlighting the proactive role of young people as organizers and innovators, Guterres called for greater access to skills necessary for the future, such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and digital literacy. He emphasized that collaboration with young people as equal partners could unlock the demographic dividend and accelerate sustainable development.

Guterres concluded by advocating for a more significant role for youth in decision-making processes at all levels, asserting that their energy and expertise are crucial in addressing some of the defining crises of our time.
