Caracas: The death toll from the two earthquakes that struck Venezuela has risen to 164, with 971 people injured. The Venezuelan government announced a package of measures to support those affected and restore economic activity in the stricken areas.
According to Emirates News Agency, the first 7.2-magnitude quake was followed seconds later by an even stronger 7.5-magnitude one, as reported by the US Geological Survey (USGS). Both quakes occurred close to the surface, intensifying the destruction. Interim President Delcy Rodrguez declared a state of emergency, highlighting the severity of the situation.
In the wake of the disaster, it was also announced that 100 aftershocks have been recorded since the two main earthquakes occurred. The government's response includes measures aimed at providing immediate relief to the affected communities and initiating recovery efforts to restore normalcy.
