Dubai: Hit Show, owned by Wathnan Racing, is gearing up for another thrilling performance at the Dubai World Cup, a year after his surprising victory left fans and experts in awe. Last year, under the guidance of jockey Florent Geroux, Hit Show made a remarkable late surge to win the prestigious race, a moment vividly remembered by Wathnan’s US racing and bloodstock manager, Case Clay.
According to Emirates News Agency, Hit Show enters his title defense with momentum, having recently secured a Grade 3 victory at Fair Grounds in New Orleans. His North American campaign, managed by trainer Brad Cox, included a notable win in the Grade 2 Lafayette Stakes at Keeneland, his second consecutive victory in the event. Cox has kept Hit Show active after last year’s Dubai triumph, believing the horse thrives on the busy schedule.
Florent Geroux, who will once again ride Hit Show on Saturday, is expected to have the freedom to adapt his strategy based on the race’s progression. Clay expressed confidence in Hit Show’s versatility and Geroux’s familiarity with the horse, emphasizing the importance of a good early pace for success.
Forever Young, who was outpaced by Hit Show in last year’s Dubai World Cup, will be seeking redemption. Meanwhile, Clay and Cox are also closely watching Steve Asmussen-trained Magnitude, who narrowly defeated Hit Show in the Clark Stakes at Churchill Downs last November.
Case Clay acknowledged the formidable competition, stating that Forever Young is currently one of the best horses globally and recognizing Magnitude’s unique capabilities. However, Clay remains confident in Hit Show’s ability to navigate the race and perform well on a familiar track.
Wathnan Racing also has Tumbarumba, another contender in the event. Tumbarumba, trained by Brian Lynch, has impressed in the Middle East, finishing third in the Saudi Cup and second in the Al Maktoum Challenge. Wathnan’s European jockey, James Doyle, will ride Tumbarumba, with Clay noting the horse’s recent progress and readiness for the competition.
Clay’s optimism extends to both horses, emphasizing their capability and readiness for the challenge ahead. As the Dubai World Cup approaches, Wathnan Racing is poised for another memorable performance with Hit Show and Tumbarumba.
