Abu dhabi: Young people are shaping the future and demanding a world that is just, inclusive, and sustainable, the UN chief stated on Friday, marking World Population Day. Secretary-General António Guterres emphasized the importance of empowering young individuals in a fair and hopeful world, reinforcing the UN's commitment to ensuring that every person has the right to make informed decisions about their lives and futures. According to Emirates News Agency, Guterres highlighted that despite challenges such as economic uncertainty, gender inequality, health issues, the climate crisis, and increasing conflicts, young people are leading with determination and clarity. They are advocating for systems that respect their rights and support their choices. Natalia Kanem, Director of UN Population Fund (UNFPA), echoed this sentiment, urging for attentiveness to the desires of young people and supporting them in exercising their rights and making their own choices. Guterres called on countries worldwide to invest in policies that ensure young people have access to education and healthcare while promoting the protection of reproductive rights. He stressed the importance of standing with young people to build a future where everyone can shape their destiny in a world characterized by fairness, peace, and hope.
