UAE condemns Houthi attempt to target Saudi Arabia with ballistic missiles and bomb-laden drones

ABU DHABI, The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned the terrorist Houthi militias’ latest attacks targeting civilian objects in various locations, which were carried out in a deliberate, systematic manner using ballistic missiles and bomb-laden drones.

The Arab Coalition, Royal Saudi Air Defence Forces, and Royal Saudi Air Force intercepted some of the attacks, while others caused damage to civilian facilities, homes, and private property.

In a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC), the UAE said that the continued threat of these attacks by the Houthi militias reflects their blatant disregard for the international community, the efforts made to end the Yemeni crisis, and all international laws and norms.

MoFAIC urged the international community to take an immediate and decisive stance to stop these recurrent acts that threaten the security and safety of civilians as well as the security of global energy supplies and economic stability. It also called on the international community to support measures taken by the Arab Coalition, led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to stop the Houthi militias from targeting civilian objects and deter their threats to countries of the region.

The UAE reiterated its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia over these subversive terrorist attacks and underscored its stance against all threats to the Kingdom’s security and stability.

The UAE also underlined its support for all measures taken by Saudi authorities, stressing that the security of the UAE and that of Saudi Arabia are indivisible and that any threat facing the Kingdom is considered a threat to the security and stability of the UAE.

Estonia celebrates its National Day at Expo 2020 Dubai

DUBAI, Estonia celebrated its National Day at Expo 2020 Dubai on Sunday with a strong focus on its status as one of the world’s most digitally-advanced societies.

Alar Karis, President of the Republic of Estonia, was welcomed by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence and Commissioner-General of Expo 2020 Dubai.

On this occasion, President Karis said, “Today, I am proud to confirm that there has never been so many Estonians at one time in Dubai. This is a testament to two things: that Expo 2020 Dubai is truly the ‘world’s greatest show’ and that Estonia’s investment in the UAE, opening an embassy, trade office and pavilion at Expo has caught the interest of our people.”

“I believe that Estonia has also a lot to offer in the field of education and education technology. Our Education Technology solutions enabled us to meet the challenges of hybrid learning during the COVID-19 era. We have a lot to share with the world in the field of digitalisation and technology in education. Estonia is well known for the use of e-services in the public sector and businesses. We coped well with the economic impact of the COVID-19 crisis thanks to the high level of IT solutions, which allowed for a smooth shift to digital channels during the lockdowns so that many firms were able to continue their daily business,” he added.

For his side, Sheikh Nahayan said, “Estonia’s participation showcases innovative solutions in the digital sector, including all the e-services that aim to make life easier for everyone, and sheds light on the country’s position as a laboratory where the possibilities for establishing businesses and testing innovative ideas are endless.”

“The UAE and Estonia share a longstanding friendship and partnership, and given our shared focus on e-governance and the digital economy, we look forward to exploring prospects for enhanced collaboration between our two countries, for our mutual benefit,” he added.

A polyphonic performance of four songs by the vocal group Estonian Voices wrapped up the National Day ceremony. The a capella ensemble’s repertoire combines pop, jazz and folk. The six-member group – three men and three women – mesmerised the audience with their stylish renditions, which included jazz covers and a traditional wedding song.

Located in the Mobility District, the Estonia Pavilion showcases the nation’s e-services and e-governance. The pavilion presents the e-solutions the country has embraced, and showcases it as a lab where new ideas can be tried and start-ups can be launched. Visitors can walk under ‘data clouds’ created by a remarkable interior designer, a nod to the ‘cloud’ that plays such a big part in Estonia’s online interactions. For the peckish, the pavilion’s restaurant presents food that is Nordic with a twist – visitors can expect seasonal, fresh and natural produce.

SCHS LAUNCHES ITS ANNUAL ZAKAT CAMPAIGN

As part of its concern of educating, training and empowering persons with disabilities according to international best practices, Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) continues to provide services to its students through the Distance Education Program. SCHS does this in all its schools, departments and branches in the Emirate of Sharjah despite the urgent circumstances the world is witnessing due to the coronavirus.

As part of SCHS efforts to emphasize the role of society members in supporting the services provided to persons with disabilities, SCHS launched its annual zakat campaign (Fund Raising). SCHS organizes this campaign every year during the holy month of Ramadan under the theme “Your Zakat… Educate us” with the aim of paying the tuition fees for students with disabilities who cannot afford it and providing the latest technologies to support their education after considering individual differences.

Her Highness Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Director General of SCHS, has confirmed SCHS concern to raising awareness of the importance of contributing to the Zakat campaign during the holy month every year and supporting the educational services provided by SCHS to students with disabilities in accordance with international best practices.

She said, “Due to the hard circumstances that the world is witnessing due to the coronavirus, SCHS adopts an advanced strategy to educate persons with disabilities remotely through the educational and training platforms in addition to using its website and social media to ensure continuity of education and communication between specialists, students and parents”.

In this context, SCHS teachers and specialists adhere to the approved programs and designated hours of education while they stay connected via smart devices to answer inquiries and send educational and training video clips appropriate for students of various disabilities

Director General of SCHS said, “For the third year in a row, Zakat Campaign has adopted the theme “Your Zakat… Educate us” as a main goal in order to confirm that this money would be allocated to cover for students, who their families cannot pay their entitlements. They are more than 543 students”.

SCHS cares to spend this money on its students with disabilities who deserve it due to their need to pay for education, training, rehabilitation, and assistive technologies. A special committee studies the financial situation of families with persons with disabilities to determine who is really in need because they cannot make a living. In this case, SCHS as being a nonprofit organization pays money to educate persons with disabilities. If SCHS cannot do this, SCHS becomes entitled to take from Zakat money, because it falls under one of the seven categories entitled to Zakat money according to the Islamic law, which is those in debt on their behalf or on behalf of others.

Her Highness Sheikha Jameela has mentioned that the total number of students who received services from SCHS in the academic year 2019 – 2020 were 1854. More than 631 employees, which 50 are with disabilities, offered these services to those beneficiaries. She believes that raising funds through organizing this campaign is a legitimate way to practice social responsibility and a good opportunity to raise people’s awareness of disability issues.

Her Highness Sheikha Jameela has praised the unlimited supports and contributions, which SCHS receives all the yearlong. She asked mass media and journalists to support this campaign by making it a priority in order to introduce what SCHS is doing to persons with disabilities and their families. This will lead to raise people’s awareness of the importance of contributing to charity work.

In turn, Mr. Jihad Abdul Qader, the General Coordinator of the Zakat Campaign, explained that due to the hard circumstances the world is living because of the coronavirus, SCHS would receive donations through wire transfers to Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services bank accounts in Sharjah Islamic Bank and Dubai Islamic Bank and through text messages.
