An extremist renews his attack on the Holy Quran for the second time in the Netherlands

The Dutch extremist, who belongs to the far-right Pegida movement, tore up a copy of the Noble Qur’an and desecrated it during a demonstration in front of the Turkish Embassy in The Hague, in a repeat of what he did in January in front of his country’s Parliament, which sparked anger of participants in a counter-demonstration.

The Dutch police closed the road leading to the street in which the Turkish Embassy is located, where a counter-demonstration was organized in which about fifty people participated, some of whom threw stones at the extremist when he started tearing pages from the Holy Qur’an, so that about 20 policemen equipped with shields and batons intervened to prevent the pursuit of the extremist as he left the place.

In a related context, the Dutch Minister of Justice, Dylan Yeshelgos-Zygerius, who was born in Turkey, described the incident as a "pathetic behavior", but made it clear that the country's laws allow such a demonstration, while the government condemned the organization of this demonstration, but confirmed that it did not have legal powers to prevent it.

The same Dutch extremist had, last January, attacked the Holy Qur’an in front of parliament, and made statements that the authorities considered a reason to put him on trial.

This incident coincides with the announcement of the liberal right-wing party in the Netherlands, led by outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte, of its readiness to form a coalition government with the far-right party led by Geert Wilders, after the early legislative elections scheduled for November 22.

It is noteworthy that, over the past months, many extremists have attacked the Holy Qur’an, and the Arab and Islamic countries have condemned these incidents, which violate the sanctities and feelings of the Arab and Islamic worlds, and have threatened to sever their relations with Sweden and Denmark in the event of their recurrence.
