Cairo: has successfully organized a series of events from February 2023 to February 2025, culminating in the planting of 13,350 mangrove trees at the Jebel Ali Marine Sanctuary.
According to Emirates News Agency, this initiative involved the participation of over 1,650 volunteers, including DEWA employees, their families, subsidiary staff, and DEWA Academy students, who collectively dedicated 3,626 hours of service. The project also saw the removal of 3,546 kilogrammes of predominantly plastic waste and the clearance of eight tonnes of algae and seaweed from the reserve’s beach.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, emphasized the organization’s commitment to social responsibility by launching campaigns and initiatives that encourage community involvement in environmental preservation. Al Tayer highlighted the importance of planting native trees like mangroves, which have a significant capacity to absorb carbon and greenhouse gases, surpassing that of tropical forests. He noted that DEWA collaborates with both government and private sectors to enhance green spaces and support biodiversity efforts.
