Sharjah National Theatre Triumphs at Alexandria International Theatre Festival

Sharjah: The Sharjah National Theatre's play "17 Hours" garnered significant recognition at the 15th Alexandria International Theatre Festival in Alexandria, Egypt, winning two prestigious awards and a certificate of appreciation. The festival, which is held under the auspices of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, provided a platform for the theatre to showcase its artistic prowess.

According to Emirates News Agency, the performance was staged at the Lycee Theatre, drawing a large audience. The play achieved the Best Set Design Award, which was awarded to Majed Al Mazmi, and the Best Actress in a Leading Role Award, claimed by Dalal Chraibi. Additionally, Nasreddine Obeidi was honored with a certificate of appreciation for his contributions to the production.

The play "17 Hours" was prepared and directed by Abdullah Mohammed, inspired by the text "Double Delirium" by the French writer Eug¨ne Ionesco. The production, presented in a caricatured style, delves into the everyday tensions of a newly married couple. Through their seemingly mundane interactions, the play reveals their ignorance of the larger tragedies and conflicts that are unfolding around them.
