Abu dhabi: The number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has surpassed 3,000, according to official figures. The DRC's health authorities reported that the outbreak has now reached 3,075 confirmed cases. Of these, there have been 1,354 deaths and 556 recoveries. Currently, 755 patients remain in hospital or isolation.
According to Emirates News Agency, the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the Ebola virus disease outbreak caused by the Bundibugyo virus in the DRC and Uganda a public health emergency of international concern on 17 May 2026. The declaration highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the region in controlling the spread of the virus.
