Munich:EDGE Group and TKMS AG & Co. KGaA (TKMS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the United Arab Emirates' state visit to Germany, aiming to explore collaboration on underwater surveillance and protection capabilities.
According to Emirates News Agency, the MoU is part of a broader initiative agreed upon by the German government and the UAE to foster closer cooperation in defense and security. The agreement focuses on evaluating opportunities to establish an integrated multi-system approach for underwater security, thereby strengthening the maritime defense capabilities of both entities.
The signing took place in Munich, with Miguel ngel L³pez Borrego, Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of TKMS, and Omar Al Zaabi, President - Commercial at EDGE, representing their respective organizations.
Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and CEO of EDGE, emphasized the importance of maritime security for the UAE's resilience and highlighted the growing demands in this sector. He noted that collaboration with partners like TKMS, who bring significant expertise, is crucial in building the necessary sovereign capabilities.
Oliver Burkhard, CEO of TKMS, welcomed the initiative, noting that the partnership with the UAE provides a robust foundation for their joint efforts. He stressed the importance of strengthening underwater surveillance and defense capabilities in light of the current security situation and reaffirmed TKMS's commitment to contributing to the UAE's national security architecture.
The collaboration will specifically explore the integration of multiple platforms and sensor systems to create a comprehensive situational picture, addressing various maritime threats effectively. The MoU outlines how TKMS's platform capabilities, combined with EDGE's system competencies, could develop an effective surveillance and protection solution.
