Brussels: The European Commission has released an additional £50 million in humanitarian assistance to respond to the catastrophic situation in Gaza and address the growing humanitarian needs in the West Bank. This significant financial aid aims to provide immediate relief to the affected populations in these regions.
According to Emirates News Agency, this new allocation raises the European Union's total emergency humanitarian aid to £220 million for Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, in 2025. Since 2023, the EU has contributed more than £550 million to support these crisis-hit areas.
In a statement, the Commission highlighted that the first-ever famine in Gaza has now been confirmed. The ongoing military assault on Gaza City has resulted in mass forced displacement, leaving families in dire need of food, shelter, healthcare, and protection.
The situation in the occupied West Bank is also dire, with ongoing forced displacement, severe movement restrictions, and settler violence creating urgent humanitarian needs in terms of protection, shelter, and access to basic services.
