Abu dhabi: Gulf Cooperation Council Leaders Wednesday concluded their 46th Summit with a pledge to boost integration and tackle emerging challenges.
According to Emirates News Agency, the leaders issued the 'Sakhir Declaration' at the end of the 46th GCC Summit hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain. The declaration emphasizes the deep, historic fraternal bonds that unite the GCC states and their peoples, rooted in common faith, lineage, language, and a shared destiny. It reflects the objectives upon which the Council was founded in 1981 and reaffirms the commitment of Their Majesties and Highnesses to strengthen integration among member states.
The leaders expressed satisfaction with the achievements in joint GCC action, including milestones in defense, security, diplomacy, and sustainable development. They highlighted the importance of respecting sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, and the indivisibility of GCC security. The declaration also welcomes the outcomes of the Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit and supports efforts to establish an independent Palestinian state.
Further, the communiqu© outlines the importance of economic development, technological advancement, and completing the requirements of the GCC Common Market and Customs Union. It underscores the need for digital infrastructure integration and cooperation in technology, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.
The declaration also affirms environmental responsibility, emphasizing clean energy projects and the commitment to net-zero emissions. It stresses international cooperation to safeguard regional security and the goal of making the Middle East free of nuclear weapons.
The leaders expressed support for Bahrain's upcoming role on the United Nations Security Council and appreciated the participation of Italy's President of the Council of Ministers in bilateral discussions aimed at strengthening relations.
The summit concluded with a call for developing institutional cooperation mechanisms to enhance fraternal solidarity and strategic integration, ensuring sustainable security and prosperity for the GCC states and their peoples.
